Sleeve gastrectomy, though, is now gaining popularity owing to its relative safety and high effectiveness.
Biliopancreatic bypass is relatively seldom performed outside Italy (motherland of its author) and Canada. Despite its good weight-reducing effect, it can cause a whole range of undesirable serious metabolic complications. Operations aimed at appetite reduction (e.g. pacemaker implantation) are not used in practice, being a subject of scientific research.
